What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Both are purified neuromodulator proteins. Based on clinical studies and what we see in our own treatment rooms, we believe the two perform equally well.
Botox® Cosmetic is FDA-approved to temporarily improve the look of forehead lines, the lines between the brows (glabella) and crow's feet in adults. It uses a form of botulinum toxin to temporarily relax muscle activity, and when the muscles relax, wrinkles on the skin look softer. Botox® is also used to reduce the effects of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Dysport temporarily improves the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines and the wrinkles around your eyes. Apart from the manufacturer, the real difference is in the unit counts: one unit of Botox equals three units of Dysport. The pricing is equal, so at your consultation we'll talk through which product suits you best!
Either way, these noninvasive injections treat and prevent wrinkles in adults by relaxing the muscles under the skin. Once those muscles are still, the skin above them looks smoother.
Neither option erases existing wrinkles for good. They're meant to make wrinkles less noticeable.
The main active ingredient is similar in both, but trace protein amounts can differ, so one may work better than the other for some people.
How do Botox and Dysport work?
Think of them as a pause button for wrinkle-making muscles! The injections are noninvasive and quiet the muscles under your skin, which helps the skin on top look smoother. Adults use them to treat and prevent wrinkles. They won't erase existing lines for good, but they're meant to make those lines far less noticeable.
Is there recovery time for Botox / Dysport?
Some patients are a little red at the injection sites for up to 15 minutes, and then it's back to your day. Just remember: for 4 hours after treatment, we recommend that you do not lay down or exercise, and please avoid UV exposure for two weeks.
How long do results last for?
It depends on the area and how many units you get, but most people enjoy results for 3 to 4 months. So a few visits a year can keep you wrinkle free!
Will Botox make me look like I've "had work done?"
We hear this worry a lot, and we share it! Overdone results on social media make us cringe too. Our rule is simple: the best injectable is undetectable. We want to highlight the beauty you already have, so friends will say you look younger, relaxed and well rested, never that you've had work done.
