What’s the hype with Sculptra anyway?

Sculptra is a type of injectable with the active ingredient of Poly-L-Lactic acid (PLLA). This substance can stimulate collagen synthesis by cells in the skin.

With aging, natural collagen of the skin breaks down which results in wrinkles, mostly obvious in the face. PLLA promotes collagen production and strengthens the collagen already present, hence why we also use Sculptra preventatively in our younger adults!

We use Sculptra in the mid face to help with volume loss obvious in this area and also along the jawline to help with jowling. And also, our absolute favorite, we use Sculptra in the buttocks to provide a non-surgical butt lift!

There is no down time associated with Sculptra but it does require some after care including massaging the treatment area – remember the rule of 5’s! Massage treated area 5 times per day, for 5 minutes, for the first 5 days.

Massaging helps ensure the product is evenly distributed under the skin, smoothes out any irregularities and also helps promote that collagen production!

So when will you see the results?

Immediately after Sculptra, the injected area will appear fuller due to the water content associated with the injection. This normally goes away after a few days.

Swelling lasts approximately 2 weeks. You will start to see subtle improvements after 4 weeks with more final results around 8 weeks. The key is that the results are gradual with Sculptra – this leaves you with a more natural outcome.

Sculptra can last 2+ years. One study showed that 80% of patients injected with Sculptra were still satisfied with their results at 25 months – new studies are showing results are even lasting 5 years!
