What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are both purified neuromodulator proteins. Through clinical studies and our experience, we believe Botox and Dysport perform equally.

Botox® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable that can be used to temporarily improve the appearance of forehead wrinkles, wrinkles in between the brows (glabella), and crow’s feet in adults. Botox® uses a form of botulinum toxin to temporarily paralyze muscle activity, which effectively relaxes the muscles and reduces the appearance of wrinkles on the skin. Botox® can also be used to reduce the effects of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).

Dysport is used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines and the wrinkles around your eyes. The main difference between Botox and Dysport (besides the manufacturer) is the number of units. One unit of Botox is equivalent to three units of Dysport. The pricing is equal but we can discuss during your consultation which product is best for you!

After your treatment, you may be red at the injection sites for up to 15 minutes. For 4 hours post treatment, we will recommend you do not lay down or exercise. Also, avoid UV exposure for two weeks.

The timing is dependent on the area and units used, but most people see results that last 3 to 4 months. That means with just a few treatments a year, you can stay wrinkle free.

Botox is often used to treat dynamic wrinkles, while fillers are more effective for static wrinkles that are always present. Neuromodulators, such as Botox and Dysport, use naturally occurring bacteria whereas dermal fillers use naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. Fillers tend to last a bit longer but tend to be a bit more expensive.
