Difference between Botox and Dysport

Wrinkles – the ordinary part of aging that no one wants to deal with!

Get ahead of aging and reduce the appearance of your wrinkles with Botox or Dysport.

How does it work?

Botox and Dysport are both types of neurotoxins that block muscle contractions. They’re both derived from botulinum toxins, which are safe in small amounts. They are both safe, non-invasive and nonsurgical forms of wrinkle treatment with no downtime. Both of these neurotoxins block signals from the nerves to the muscles – the muscle that we treat can no longer contract, which cause the wrinkles to relax and soften.

Where can we use Botox and Dysport?

The areas that we can treat with Botox or Dysport include:

  • Frown lines (those pesky 11’s between your eyebrows)
  • Forehead lines
  • Crows feet (around the eyes)
  • Jelly roll (wrinkles underneath the eyes)
  • Masseters (muscles around your jawline that are activated, especially if you grind your teeth)
  • Underarms to treat Hyperhidrosis (AKA – Excessive sweating)
  • Mentalis muscle (dimpling/orange peel chin)
  • Corners of the mouth to treat with Depressor anguli oris (giving you a smile lift!)

What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?

The main difference between Botox and Dysport is the manufacturer. Galderma manufactures Dysport, while Allergan manufactures Botox. Since the two are manufactured differently, their non-toxin proteins cause them to have different potencies, various durations and onset of action.

In addition, while both of these injectables are measured in units, the formulation is slightly different. For instance, if you have had 10-20 units of Botox across your forehead lines in the past, you will require 3 times this amount in Dysport units for similar results.

Though more units are needed, the cost per unit for Dysport is less so you would not have to worry about paying more than you normally would for Botox!

How long does it last and when can I see the results?

After receiving your treatment, you can expect the wrinkles to smooth gradually over the course of 3-5 days. The full effect will be seen within 10-14 days.

You can expect the muscles to remain relaxed for at least 3 months. We recommend our patients to follow up at this point to continue to maintain a youthful, wrinkle free appearance. This treatment is effective for both men and women – see examples below:

What’s the average cost for a full treatment?

The average cost, depending on the areas you would like to get  treated, for Dysport is around $450 and the average cost for Botox can be around $500 per visit. To aid this we offer Care Credit as a financing option – Learn more.
